First Ever Marleyfest to Benefit New Grass Country Club
On a recent tour stop in Shreveport, the New Grass Country Club van was broken into and street thugs made off with cash, personal belonging and most of the band’s instruments. The devastating loss has effectively put the band on a forced hiatus, preventing them from performing live or continuing work on the follow up to 2010′s Join The Club!.
Members of fellow Loyola-based music groups Native America, Sun Hotel and Caddywhompus saw the theft as more than just a crime against friends, but as an assault on all that is hopeful and good in American society. In that spirit, they have put together Marleyfest, a benefit concert event with three main goals: stop hate, take back the streets, and raise money to help the members of New Grass Country Club replace the gear that was stolen.
In addition to planning an afternoon of music and mirth, Marleyfest organizers put together Stop The Hate, a compilation EP featuring previously unreleased material from all the bands performing plus an additional contribution from Vox and the Hound. As with the proceeds from Marleyfest, all money brought in from sales of the EP will go directly towards getting New Grass back on their musical feet.
Marleyfest 2011 will be taking place on February 19, 2011 at the Mudlark Theater in the Bywater. It begins at 4:20PM and is scheduled to end just as the Krewe Du Vieux parade officially kicks off Carnival Season.
