Live Picks: 08.23.2012 – 08.29.2012
08.25: Coyotes + Gold And The Rush + Sports & Leisure – Carrollton Station
After an impressive string of performances earlier this summer and a trip to the studio to put down their first offerings of recorded material, what is obvious to many at this point is how Sports & Leisure has quickly managed to match their complex – often jarring – milieu of folk, indie pop and psychedelic miscellanea with an organic tightness and a fantastic level of onstage energy.
Live Picks: 07.05.2012 – 07.11.2012
07.07: Vox And The Hound + The Eastern Sea- Carrollton Station
These days, it’s hard to not be excited about local western-folk renaissance men Vox And The Hound. The brutally swampy transition into the 2012 New Orleans summer may have been one of the most eventful and important stretches in Vox And The Hound relatively short but luminescent history. Saturday’s show is the finale of a recent mini-tour to Texas and back, and is one of a few choice gigs Vox has on the books before Courage drops in November.

08.27: Vox and the Hound + Coyotes + Mobley – Carrollton Station
If there is a New Orleans band that both typifies “indie rock” and gracefully avoids the genre’s propensity for offering up artists capable of nothing more than middling, five-out-of-ten twee pop, that band is undeniably Vox and the Hound. Having just ended an extended summer break, the five-piece will be holding it’s first performance in New Orleans since May at Carrollton Station.

Ben Labat and the Happy Devil: 01.28.2011
Every once in a while it’s healthy to come back to your comfort zone. On my way to see Ben Labat and the Happy Devil play, I knew I was in for a scene of familiar faces, affectionate crowds, and potent drinks. In fact, while paying cover at Carrollton Station, I realized that I’ve never [...]

01.14: Vox and The Hound + Sun Hotel – Carrollton Station
When Leo DeJesus decides to flesh out his arsenal with a crack team of similarly long resumed musicians – including musical renaissance man/Community Records founder/all around nice guy Daniel Rey – you can pretty much bet on the fact that the end result is going to be better than good.
