04.06: Pizzanity! – Siberia

Just as the New Orleans music scene is undergoing something of an DIY renaissance, so too is the food scene. The last few years have been marked by a wide range of decidedly non-mainstream restaurant ventures such as food trucks, push carts, and pop-ups serving everything from burgers to bahn mi to tamales to tacos. This benefit for Pizza Delicious, kings of local underground cuisine, will rightly showcase some of the kings (and queens) of local underground music including seminal alt-country rockers Happy Talk Band, who spent the back half of 2011 fine tuning a slew of haunting new compositions while somehow continuing to improve the platonic ideal that is their visceral performance of a nearly flawless canon.

03.17: Soccer Team + Edie Sedgwick + I’m Fine + Opposable Thumbs – Siberia

The Dischord Records of now is virtually unrecognizable from the Dischord of the glorious eighties. But as the crackpot avant-gardism of former El Guapo/Supersystem bassist Justin Moyer indicates, the Dischord roster is still prone to its fair share of capriciousness. Moyer, who dresses in drag and purports to be a transgendered reincarnation of Edie Sedgwick , has concocted a performance art mise en scene – complete with a backing band, homemade visuals and what appears to be an attempt to replicate the vibe of a Mutant Disco compilation – over which he yelps and whispers full-on lampoons 0f specific figures at the top of semi-current pop culture.

The Strange Confluence of Internet Media, Semi-legitimate Live Music Establishments and Hardcore Punk

It should have been artlessly apparent to anyone who attended Siberia’s Saturday, October 15 showcase of California supergroup Off! and Brooklyn newcomers Cerebral Ballzy – bands who overwhelmingly appear to represent the heart of a new wave of tradition-burning and norm-ducking hard edged music – that it was a categorical smash success for every party [...]

08.19: The Hooten Hallers – Siberia

With an unconventional one guitarist/standing drummer arrangement and a drunken barroom sound that belies their impressive attention to musical nuance and melody, Missouri’s the Hooten Hallers is easily one of the most outrageous and revelatory live shows you can witness.
